
The International Business Brokers Association conducted a survey of business brokers in the fourth quarter of 2024. In the survey they found that retirement and burnout remain the primary reasons owners sold their operations. Nearly 65% of respondents reported that owners were selling their operations for retirement reasons. Burnout was the second highest reason for exiting the business. Following as third, fourth, and fifth reasons, respectively, were new opportunity, family issues, and relocation.
