Using Smart AI Tools in Home Care

Caregiver interfacing with AI

Artificial intelligence (AI) is nothing new. Most folks have been using AI tools for years. For example, early AI applications included spellcheck in word processors, tools that complete a sentence in an email, and out-of-office message when someone calls your work phone. These tools have evolved, if used properly, to make home caregiver's work more manageable. Use tools that will make your work easier or allow you to do more without burdening you. Listed below are 7 helpful AI tools that home care agencies and healthcare providers might consider using.

  • Caregiver Scheduling. AI can match caregivers with clients based on caregivers' skills and availability, and clients' preferences. Many AI tools help resolve scheduling conflicts in real time.

  • Care Planning. AI can perform an initial patient assessment using clinical information and mapping it to best practices and your agency's preferences. Clinicians can speed up the onboarding process by using such tools.

  • Data Analysis. AI is traditionally used to analyze large amounts of data. It identifies patterns and trends. For example, you can have AI analyze your past year's billing activity and caregiver utilization. Then you can determine the most profitable services your agency should offers.

  • Task Automation. With the right AI subscription, you can automate routine tasks such as invoicing (ugh!), supplies tracking, and scheduling. This can free up to administrator's time for hands-on coaching of agency staff.

  • Real-time Support. AI chatbots and voice note assistance can expand your support to 24/7 coverage without the needs for additional staff. This helps you provide more services with little additional costs.

  • Agency Cash Flow Management. Every administrator tries to balance the cash coming in (e.g., provider payments) with the cash going out (e.g., payroll, rent). AI can analyze an agency's reimbursement time and denial rates to predict the cash coming in. Administrators can then map this cash flow analysis to how they are paying their bills.

  • Health Monitoring. AI paired with Internet of Things (IoT) devices can help monitor seniors' health. Some of these AI tools are blood pressure monitors, glucose meters, ortho-sensors, pill dispensers, oximeters, wearable smartwatches or bracelets, Google hubs, and Amazon's Alexa.
