Effective January 1, 2025, the minimum wage in Virginia will be $12.41 per hour. This adjustment represents a cost-of-living increase of 3.4% above the previous minimum wage of $12.00. The new rate will be effective from January 1, 2025 to January 1, 2026. During the 2020 Regular Session, the General Assembly reenacted the Virginia Minimum Wage Act. The law requires the Commissioner of Labor and Industry to establish an adjusted state hourly minimum wage by October 1, 2024, to take effect on January 1, 2025, and then annually thereafter. The Commissioner must adjust the minimum wage in accordance with the United States Average Consumer Price Index for all items, all urban consumers (CPI-U), as published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U. S. Department of Labor. See the DOLI Notice here.
